Athletics and Sustainability

The Furman athletic department has embraced Furman's sustainability initiatives.

Some of the athletic sponsored efforts include:

• Pre-recorded (by student athletes) and live public announcements at home sporting events about Furman's environmental efforts, updates on ongoing initiatives and tips for sustainable living.
• Programs printed on recycled content paper.
• Banners featuring prominent student athletes in support of recycling are on display in the football stadium and basketball arena.
• Football recycling score card: An updated banner on the amount of recyclables captured at home football games.
• Increases in the number of recycling containers at athletic venues.
• Solar power at football games. During two home football games the play clock and band amplifiers were powered by a photovoltaic system.
• Several athletic teams are using their community service requirements to support environmental projects on and off campus.
• The Women's Soccer team have been environmental heroes this year.
• The list keeps growing...
